Questions

  • Who do you work with?

For the past fifteen years I’ve been working as a freelance UX designer for marketing and web agencies throughout Hampshire, Berkshire, London & the UK, providing website design, UX and creative services. At times I’ve even been utilised in a more consultative role, advising on SEO strategy, architecture (IA) and conversion optimisation.

I also work directly with ambitious start-ups and SMEs all over, offering support and creative services such as branding, design and SEO.

  • Can you oversee an entire UX design project from brief to launch?

Whilst I specialise in UX and website design I do partner with a trusted WordPress developer to see many websites through to launch. I’m well versed in managing the project start to finish and guiding clients through the content creation process.

Often agencies have their own in-house web development team so I’m equally at home working as part of their in-house team.

  • Can I pick and choose your skills to suit my project?

Absolutely. Through experience as a freelance UX designer, I have extended my core web design skill-set and can offer support through user research, Information Architecture (IA), User Experience (UX) and SEO. I’m also very happy to work on custom graphics and creative, whether it’s branding / logo creation, icon sets, infographics or visuals.

In short, use me however you see fit.

  • Where are you located?

I have access to office space in Hampshire but typically I work remote. I serve customers all over the UK but typically my client-base falls within Hampshire, Berkshire, London and the surrounding counties.

  • Can you help with SEO?

Yes I can help with SEO. I have years of experience optimising the websites I design for search engines. I have also worked alongside a number of great SEO consultants so am well versed on advising or implementing effective SEO strategies.

  • Will the work you produce for agencies end up in your portfolio?

Categorically no. Any work I produce for an agency will remain entirely confidential and will never appear in my portfolio. I know how important this is for agencies.

  • Walk me through your design process?

My skills can be utilised in any way, but a UX design project will look something like this:

    • Initial consultation / brief
    • Brand discovery (if required)
    • User research, including analysis and stakeholder / user questionnaires (if required)
    • Focus workshop to flesh out key user journeys and goals (if required)
    • IA and wireframes (if required)
    • Initial concept (typically Homepage V1) presentation
    • Remaining visuals presentation
    • Revisions / sign-off
    • Design hand-off

Following the UX design process I can either work with an in-house development team, or work directly with the end client to progress through the build, content and launch phases of the project.

Depending on the project I’ll work through any combination of the above phases.

  • How long will a project take to complete?

I work well under pressure and can be entirely led by deadlines.

A start-to-finish website project (including content) can take upwards of six weeks to complete. However signed-off visuals for an agency from brief to hand-off can be turned around in just days.

  • Tell me more about you?

As a freelance UX designer in the UK I’ve been immersed in the world of web for over two decades now. I come from a strong graphic design background but towards the end of my education steered towards web and digital design.

With many years of experience in web and UX under the belt, paired with a strong design background I have a lot to offer agencies and end clients alike.

On a personal level… I’m a family man with two boys that keep me on my toes. I like my exercise and I’m always on the go. I have been known to talk too much, but I turn that in to a positive professionally as I believe communication is the key to success.

  • How do we get started?

As with any project, let’s have a chat to pin down the requirement. We can then go from there. Hire me.
